A Reservation At The Capella Singapore Resort

There’s a resort on an island off the south coast of Singapore ….where perched on a knoll and overlooking the South China Sea, one may feel he or she has reached heaven on earth. Capella Hotel Resort is where one may go, close to home and work, but light-years away.
Front side note Colonial Bungalows from the 1800s

To call this a hotel is a half-truth.

This is truly one of the world’s finest RESORTS.

Sentosa, which means tranquillity in Malay, is a popular island resort in Singapore, visited by some two million people a year. A major tourist attraction, it hosts a sheltered beach of more than two kilometers in length on its southern coast, a musical fountain that uses the interaction of lasers against water particles to create three-dimensional images, and historical fortifications in Fort Siloso, dating from World War II. There are also two golf courses and two 5-star hotels.

Surrounded by 30 acres of lush rain-forest, the six-star property features contemporary architectural buildings with curved designs sitting adjacent to white-painted bungalows that conjure up memories of Singapore’s colonial heritage.

Combining the best of the old and new, everything from the amenities to the art on the expansive walls are what you’d expect of a luxury hotel; while the charm of the place is old world.

The elegant resort has 112 villas and suites, including 57 Premier guestrooms, 15 suites, 38 villas and two colonial manors. There’s also a luxury spa, a business center, two restaurants, and a bar, a reading room, meeting facilities, three cascading outdoor pools and a sculpture garden. But what you’ll love most about the resort is the quiet ambiance and sense of serenity one feels.

Two colonial bungalows and a modern circular annex form the perimeter of the hotel’s vibrant garden courtyard.

One weekend in April, I visited for a weekend. I was received in one of the historic Tanah Merah — the Malay word for “red earth” — buildings. Check-in went quickly. In less than five minutes, I was on my way, escorted to my room along an unbroken walkway that extended from the colonial house to the modern, curved annex.

The verdant garden courtyard, an area enclosed by the buildings, reflects the surroundings to Singapore herself. It is the modern extension of fine Colonial British architecture in a tropical destination, modernized with the newer building.

The resort provides a quiet ambiance and sense of serenity.”

Capella always is a grand home away from home. A wonderful place to relax, unwind and think about future plans, and what one’s life is really about and should be dedicated toward.

an accommodation view morning

Morning view, Lush land, and South China Sea

A morning view – lush greenery in the foreground, and the inviting South China Sea in the background

Thanks to the warm and inviting palettes of the room — made so with wooden accents, floor-to-ceiling windows, comfortable furnishings and sumptuous materials; settling in was quick and easy. Looking through the window one admires bougainvillea trees and foliage, so vibrant and eye-catching they make a photographer’s frame with the sea as the perfect background.

Enjoy an elegant dinner at Cassia, the hotel’s fine Cantonese restaurant. One might stop in at Bob’s, a Cuban-inspired hotel bar with the best alfresco area for lounging upon daybeds under huge fans.

The Premier Room bathroom features a spacious, deep soaking bathtub that faces the balcony:

The Premier Room is the hotel’s standard guest accommodation. Capella is known for having the most spacious rooms in the city, more than enough room for two.

Premier sea view Capella

Along with the wide bedroom area, the bathroom and wardrobe space takes up a substantial portion of the 77-square meter (828 sq feet) sanctuary. Truly the size of a small home.

The bedside touch panel control

There’s also nothing ‘entry-level’ about the accommodation option. Besides complimentary non-alcoholic refreshments in the mini-fridge, a working table, a 46-inch flat-screen LCD TV, and a state-of-the-art bedside touch panel control for lighting, air-condition, and curtains and blinds, all Premier Rooms also feature a balcony and sofa that comfortably seats up to four.

After a completely satisfying Cantonese dinner, one might contemplate the future, looking out at the twinkling navigation lights from the ships motoring past.

The black stone rain-forest shower area, complete with Aesop amenities is unique to our city, I think, and quite beautiful.

Apart from the aforementioned bathtub, there is also an open concept black stone rainforest shower, complete with Aesop amenities; and a toilet in another enclosure separated by a heavy swinging door. His and her sinks are positioned directly behind the head of the king-size bed,…

A toiletry kit box – a thoughtful feminine feature found in every room

… and complimentary toiletries are offered in a box that sits between the sinks.

Finally, when it is time to lie down one shall nestle into the soft Pratesi linens and perhaps send up a silent prayer of thanks for your good fortunes in life. Reaching to the thoughtfully installed control, one finger can close the curtains and blinds. The darkness soon becomes an excellently restful night’s sleep.

On the way to breakfast, a peacock may accompany you with good luck as you walk. The hotel is home to a few of the lovely creatures roaming around the grounds

Follow these birds quietly, slowly as they might make their way down the stairs and around the corner to the restaurant. They know how to find food. They know where a little bit of heaven can be found on Sentosa Island. Capella Hotel Resort, Singapore.

More About Dining On Sentosa Island

Any writer can start with the lobby, the staircase, rooms, and restaurants. For this article we’re working from the OUTside in. We have begun, as it might be said, at the perimeter and worked in to finally arrive in the hotel and in a room that might be the right one for you! But first, consider a wedding here. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

How Important To You Is

Your Perfect Wedding?

To be fair I recommend you see the official website (referred to below) to see more wedding photos. I tell you honestly, you can NOT do this anywhere else in  Singapore.

As an aside; you might enjoy this:

Old Chinese Wedding Customs?

We can be very thankful, the year is not 1949 and we are not in old New York Chinatown. It’s a new day in the sun for all of us, even though the Virus Crisis, we can stride forward into the future, confident that our lives will become what we seek and work toward. The crisis will end, opportunity displays itself, and we should fear only our personal fears. This story gives us a glance at the past.https://sgshopper2030.com/old-chinatown-wedding-customs/

Let’s Be Married in The Capella!

You know…. Asking the Capella Curates team about A Wedding according to Chinese Custom might make them busy and be very helpful….

Capella Curates

At the heart of the Capella philosophy is a visionary curation of culture and experience. This is what makes Capella infinitely more than a hotel. It’s a Singapore Cultural experience!

The Capella Culturists have scoured Singapore, leaving no door unopened, seeking to provide you with unforgettable moments, learning about the traditions and heritage, discovering new skills, and meeting fascinating people along the way. We seek, through knowledge, empathy, and respect for our surroundings, to create a selection of experiences designed to become lifelong memories.

Spend a week here, see and do everything and come away feeling as if you’ve learned a semester of college absorbing Asian Singaporean culture. I think many will feel they have been made ready to become one of Singapore’s new citizens!

 Walk with Nature

One very good way to get a rest for your entire body and mind is a return to nature and after a long trip to Singapore, or a long time working within Singapore, this walk in nature is an excellent way to slow down and restore balance to your nervous system and your mind. Perhaps you’ll discover your Qi energy flowing again as it should!

I recommend you leave the bustling city-scape for a short while. Go into the flourishing tranquility of Singapore Botanic Gardens. The official page>

Imbibe the sights and sounds that this lush garden has to offer, and learn about the evolution of this British tropical colonial botanic garden into the iconic institution for research and education that it is today.

Enjoy a personal guided tour of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, complete with a Capella picnic. The Botanic Gardens are  Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site located a moment away from the city’s famous Orchard Road shopping district and many of the world’s finest hotels!

In the early years, the Gardens played an important role in fostering agricultural development in Singapore and the region through collecting, growing, experimenting and distributing potentially useful plants. One of the earliest and most important successes was the introduction, experimentation and promotion of Para Rubber, Hevea brasiliensis. Now, the garden continues to play an important role as a leading tropical botanical institute, and a favorite visit venue for citizens and tourists. With more than 150 years of history, the 82-hectare Gardens hold a unique and significant place in the history of Singapore and the region.

Your guide will lead you from the Heritage Museum and the famous Tembusu heritage tree to the Black and White colonial bungalow for an insight into the gardens’ rich history. Children ages 6 to 66 are entertained by feeding the swans and fish at the serene Swan Lake.

The tour will end with a picnic of Ginger tea, Orchid Cake, and light bites, in the heart of the garden. It’s a grand way to get a rest for you and your traveling companion.

 Evelyn Chen’s Hawker Haunts

Embark on a marvelous journey that all food aficionados would adore, as you sample a range of local delicacies.

Chilli crab, laksa, cereal prawn are only a small portion of the delicious Singapore hawker food that you will be trying in this culinary adventure, led by one of Singapore’s most esteemed foodies.

With approximately 14,000 hawker stalls across the country, the hawker culture’s gamut of affordable ethnic fare represents Singapore’s multiracial society. Cheap street food in the city has flourished since the 1800’s when Singapore started thriving as an entrepôt; with permanent food stalls serving a variety of cuisines and shared seating areas, hawker centers are now dotted throughout the city and have become a staple in Singapore’s famed foodie scene, which has gained international recognition.

This wonderful journey was dreamed up by Ms. Evilyn Chen. This smart gal with the broad, winning smile took her first breath here, in .Sg and never moved out!  Evelyn Chen has become synonymous with the city’s burgeoning food scene; in addition to being a well-known food journalist, blogger, and social media influencer, Evelyn is one of the regional academy chairs for World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards. On Evelyn Chen’s Hawker Haunts, you will be escorted by Evelyn herself on a hawker center dining chain across Singapore. Evelyn is a charming bright star in Singapore and everyone wishes they could be her friend and neighbor for life! Listen closely. She’ll teach you a lot about good food!

The food lover’s adventure would not be complete without having a taste of Singapore’s prized fruit; the Durian. The name “durian” was derived from the Malay word for thorns, duri. The taste has often been described as a buttery custard flavored with almonds, intermingled with wafts of flavor that call to mind cream cheese, onion sauce, brown sherry, and other incongruities. There are many jokes about Durian, including “don’t try to kiss someone after eating it” and “Anyone who can eat a big chunk in one go is a person of epic!” Durian is sometimes used to make candy and chewing gum. It grows all over South East Asia. Like some famed cheeses, when you get it past your nose you’ll taste and (probably) find you like it!

Qi & The City

Journey through Singapore as you learn about the city’s fascinating feng shui stories.

Ride in style as you explore Singapore’s mystical feng shui elements. As you breeze down quaint alleyways and enjoy face-to-face encounters with locals, Qi & The City will offer the opportunity to experience authentic Singapore life.

Feng shui, or Chinese geomancy, translates to wind and water, which form the foundations of Chinese metaphysics, the invisible forces that connect the universe. Originating from ancient China, feng shui practitioners say they use energy forces to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment.

Throughout the journey, your feng shui master will delve into the story behind several of the city’s buildings and structures, which are shaped and located so as to harness the best outcome based on feng shui principles.

Qi & The City will see you visit some of Singapore’s best-known attractions, including Marina Bay Sands and the Merlion, observing how feng shui principles play into their placement. The feng shui master will also share some feng shui-related myths of the city, such as the belief that the Singapore River and Kallang River’s confluence into Marina Bay resembles a dragon’s head.

The basic tenet of feng shui is that certain locations are more auspicious than others; the auspicious-ness of a place is determined by the availability of vital energy or “Qi” that is said to flow underground; meeting certain landform conditions and facing certain directions.

Prepare to be amazed as you learn just how important feng shui principles have been in the growth of Singapore. Four-legged friends are welcome sidecar riders!

Visit the welcoming home of Mummy Soh, which has been transformed into an all-in-one urban farm.

Retired school teacher, affectionately known as Mummy Soh, has transformed her traditional Singaporean home to offer you the chance to catch a glimpse of local life in a modern kampong home.

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to live in the so-called kampong era, before Singapore transformed from a fishing village to a vibrant metropolis? Mummy Soh’s home is an opportunity to go back in time and revisit this era, with her urban farm, cooking school, art gallery, and community center.

Mummy Soh’s house was located next to kampongs, which housed a multicultural mix of Malays, Eurasians and Chinese all living in harmony in one neighborhood.

In her home, she frequently hosts dinners and conducts cooking classes, maintaining an open-door policy to encourage the exchange of ideas and keep traditions alive through these community events.

Unique to Singapore, the ‘kampong spirit’ was alive as mothers would gather and exchange recipes, while the children made friends and wandered around the villages.

During your One Kind House experience, Mummy Soh will teach you how to whip up farm-to-table local favourites like Fish Laksa, Mee Siam, and Chicken Curry. Almost all components of the dishes are made from scratch, from the extraction of the coconut milk to plucking the chilli, ginger and lemongrass from the garden to make the various pastes.

At the heart of our Sentosa Island escape are two restored Tanah Merah colonial bungalows dating back to the 1880s, from which the hotel extends into gardens and grounds framed by the sea.

Inspired by Tanah Merah’s Malay translation red earth, architects Foster + Partners designed this resort in Singapore to sit in harmony with the traditional architecture and the beautiful surrounding environment.

As of 13 May 2020 during the virus crisis, the all-day dining restaurant, The Knolls, will be open from 12pm-10 pm for takeaway orders only. Please click here to view the menu. Auriga spa, Cassia, Bob’s Bar, and all other public areas will be closed until the passing of the Covid-19 crisis.

Our guests and employees are the heart of our business, and we are working closely with those impacted to support them during this crisis. We look forward to resuming normal operations as soon as it is safe and comfortable to do so.
