We need to take a serious look.
Picking up a bit from where we werein the previous article….
Chiropractic developed a problem in the form of a business seminar that proised to h elp these doctors build a successful business. The Parker Success Seminar taught that Chiropractors should be earning what neurosurgeons earn! I consider that to be an outrageous assertion. I have never been trained to be a surgeon and then go further into the specialty of of neurologic and brain surgery. No one risks death in my table. I don’t take those risks and don’t deserve such an income.
The insurance companies and patients could see they were paying more than $2,000 for X-Rays and exams. They were paying at least an additional $500 for 10 visits. Patients were signing a contract for a 30-visit “program” but 25% of them were not getting well and felt that they had been cheated. Where I lived and worked, it was illegal to promote these “family plans” but many Chiropractors did it anyway. The licensing board, (Bill and John Day and a couple of other minor demigogs) were so corrupt they could get away with violating the laws they themselves wrote!
Today, I believe because of these abuses, many American Chiropractors are not maintaining a full schedule. The Parker seminars poisoned their community following these methods and believing they should earn as much as neurosurgeons earn. In my thinking the entire idea was a ridiculous scam from its inception. Now someone is paying the price for their sins.
I teach in this booklet and plan to, in a future “practice building” course, how to build a practice and be so busy you can easily earn over $170,000 per year. This is simple arithmetic. I’ll give you numbers to prove what I said. But, just to help you right now, grab your calculator.
World wide health surveys indicate that 80% of all people have back pain some times or chronically. There is more work out there and 100,000 of us can handle!
This booklet was originally written for Singapore but prices in America are even higher in some places. You’ll have to phone around to learn what generap medical practitioners charge and charge about the same. Assume you collect CASH before you start working, $50 (and in many places you maybe collecting $70 and $90 per visit. I see a patient in 20 – 25 minutes and fit in 2 patients per hour (x) 8 hours or 16 perhaps 18 patients per day. When you understand the calendar you see there are 22 working days per month and 264 per year. If you take off 2 weeks for vacations you have 254 days (x) 16 patient visits (s) assume $50. You can work with other numbers. It is simple arithmetic. You can break it down to fewer days or fewer visits but when you see the calculation you’ll understand to what I’ve been alluding.
You can care for about 2 patients per hour with what I’m teaching, see 14 patients per day, and have time for a rest and lunch, charge about $50 per patient visit, which is about the same price you pay to see a general practitioner medical doctor.
Get your calculator and run the numbers to check my arithmetic. 14 patient x $50 x 22 days per month x 11.5 months per year. What did you get? I got $177,100 and for me this is pleasant work. It is somewhat physically demanding but I like it and consider it healthy exercise.
You might work more and see two more, you might work less or go on visits to a home or hotel room, and charge more for that visit. You might work 6-days each week. That’s all your decision and your calculation.
You can see there’s a great potential income and if you handle this right there’s no law to stop you.
Let’s finish this in the next article. “How Much Can I Earn In This Career?”
